As unmissable as it is compelling, as profound as it is personal, this must-read book will delight anyone familiar with the intimate and powerful pull which the sea holds over us; author Wyl Menmuir's _The Draw of the Sea_ is a beautifully written and deeply moving portrait of the sea and the people whose livelihoods revolve around it.
Joining us for a very special in conversation event right on the sea's edge, Wyl is coming to Whitley Bay's St. Mary's Lighthouse on Thursday 15th June to delve into the sea-life, people and places that helped shape the book; their rich histories and traditions; how we interact with the environment around us, and how it comes to shape the course of our lives.
This event is suitably shaped around the tides and when the causeway is uncovered, so doors will be open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
Please read below a few notes from the St. Mary's Lighthouse Education Officer regarding your visit:
* Please ensure you arrive on time, it usually takes about 15 minutes to park up and cross to the island.
* The car parks are card only. There is parking space enough for all guests at the North Car Park (nearest the island). Charge information can be found here - https://bit.ly/42wH1Bl
* Please bring extra clothing/ change of clothing and sensible footwear to keep warm and dry, as it can always be cold at the coast especially with the wind in the late afternoons.
* Guests may wish to bring binoculars or cameras. There is a whole range of wildlife and beautiful views to enjoy. We ask that you please watch the seals quietly from the wildlife watching areas only.
_There will be an opportunity to take a walk around the island before and after the event to take in the views and wildlife but we advise to stick to the timings and notes above as we cannot be responsible for your access to and from the island. There is no parking available on St. Mary's for this event._
