Aimed at Year 1-3 (ages 5-8) including schools and home educators.

Join the Great North Museum: Hancock team for a day full of virtual Fossils and Dinosaurs . Watch virtual tours, take part in live workshop and su bmit your questions to one of our expert curators!

S essions are aimed at 5-8 year olds in schools and other settings . Older students interested in this topic may also like to take part.

You can sign up to as many of the sessions as you like .

Joining information and additional resources will be circulated closer to the date.

Home learners and children not in a school setting are also welcome to take part.

Please note that for Safeguarding, adults not accompanying a participating child will not be permitted into any of these sessions.

Session 1 – Virtual Museum Tour

9:30 am - 10:00a m

Come on a tour of the Fossil Stories gallery at the Great North Museum: Hancock. During this journey covering over 300 million years, yo u wi ll learn how animal and plant life has changed over deep time . Use your ‘Can You Find?’ sheet to see if you can spot our key objects. Test your knowledge after the tour with our fossils quiz .

Session 2 – Workshop: What can we learn from dinosaur fossils?

10:30 am – 11:15am

Focusing on fossils that are looked after in our museum and others like it, this session encourages children to think deeply about learning from objects. Budding palaeontologists will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills. From fossil bones to fossil poo, there's lots to learn from fossils in this interactive workshop.

Session 3 – Ask and Answer

1:00pm – 1 :45pm

Session 4 – Workshop

Dinosaur Art: How do artists draw dinosaurs they've never seen in real life?

2:00pm – 2:45pm

In the world of palaeoart , science and creativity combine to produce captivating images of prehistoric life. Over the last century, the way dinosaurs are depicted has continued to change. Come and learn how science informs the art and become a palaeoartist yourself as you use your newly acquired knowledge (along with some artistic flair) to design a T. rex.

Please note that this Online Focus day on Fossils & Dinosaurs is open for multiple schools and/or home learners to book. We will instruct all participants to turn cameras and microphones off during the sessions.

For safeguarding reasons adults not accompanying a participating child will not be admitted into any of the sessions.
