Newcastle Cathedral - Take a Closer Look

As part of Newcastle Cathedral’s National Heritage Lottery Fund major building project, Common Ground in Sacred Space, we are offering a chance to meet some of the key people and stories behind our inspirational building.

Each space in the Cathedral reveals a unique story of the heritage and people of Newcastle upon Tyne. You will get a chance to glimpse at some of the changes taking place and learn a bit more about the major heritage developments in the Cathedral. Meet the people behind this ground breaking project, including , Heritage Property Restoration, Lindy Gilliland, Project Manager and Archaeologist Dave Heslop. This 1 hour activity will involve talks and demonstrations from our team of specialists to provide an insight into the the changes and developments during a heritage building project.

Common Ground in Sacred Space is a National Lottery Heritage Fund £6m restoration project, which will include physical changes inside and out, including removal of the pews; installing underfloor heating; renewing the Nave floor to create a stunning open and flexible space. The outside site will be transformed by extensive landscaping to both the south and east churchyards. The basement beneath the Cathedral hall will be converted into visitor facilities for staff, volunteers and visitors.

Due to COVID restrictions and social distancing regulations we can only offer group bookings for £20 per tour for a maximum of 6 people. If you are a group of less than 3 please contact alina.trewhitt@newcastlecathedral.org.uk to discuss a discount.
