Hadrian's Wall on Tyneside CPD Event for Primary School Teachers
Join the Learning teams from Segedunum and Arbeia Roman Forts, Great North Museum: Hancock and Historic England, Heritage Schools Programme in this free teacher CPD event to enhance your skills and confidence in using the Hadrian’s Wall UNESCO World Heritage sites and collections on Tyneside.

Segedunum Roman Fort Find out about Segedunum Roman Fort, the remains of Hadrian’s Wall and visit our Viewing Tower with a panoramic view to discover why Segedunum is a great place to investigate the changing use of a place over time. We’ll also explore different ways to engage children with the site, using activities to promote oracy and literacy skills. Historic England, Heritage Schools This session will show teachers how to use maps and aerial photos to trace changes over time and will help enhance geography skills and demonstrate how to build historical enquiries. The session will also explore how maps and aerial photos can be used to support the teaching of second order concepts in history such as historical significance, cause and consequence and similarity and difference

Great North Museum: Hancock Enhance the way in which you teach about the Romans with object handling. This session will explore how to create WOW moments, but also how to improve pupil-led question generation, to improve pupil's retention of their learning through exploration.

Arbeia, South Shields Roman Fort Experience how Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums are reaching beyond their walls and connecting with Special Educational Needs Disability (SEND), Profound Multiple Learning Disability (PMLD), and hard-to-reach disadvantaged audiences, through free, on-demand, innovative digital sensory story telling sessions and on-line activities where you create the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes to bring the stories to life, using materials easily found or made at home. You will learn how to use this resource to support curriculum learning as well as arts award and or Arts Mark, whilst contributing to the health and wellbeing of your class through meaningful experiences with sensory engagement.
