About
Dido, is abject and broken after the murder of her husband and she is teetering on the fringes of sanity.
Her loyal handmaid, Belinda, is ill-prepared to provide adequate mental health support and firmly believes that positive thinking and a new man will be the answer to all of Dido’s lamenting.
Enter Prince Aeneas, a prime specimen of manhood, and charming to boot. He offers all the sweet words of courtship that he can muster but still Dido is cold.
He departs, and exhausted Dido takes a moment to sleep. However, her tormented mind gives her little time to rest and she is tortured with visions of her courtiers plotting her downfall.
She wakes, but her memory is failing her. How did she come to be on the hillside? And is that… an elephant?
When Aeneas arrives, Dido’s fears are revealed. He never loved her. The pain of living catches up with her and surrounded by enemies there is only one person left that she can trust.

Harlekin Studio Opera is a community company providing a high level education in opera. Founded on the belief that all people should be given equal access to a safe space in which to find their voice, HSO is forging a new path for emerging singers in the North East and supports a broad spectrum of individual participants from complete novice to pre-professional.
