Backworth Male Voice Choir

Has a long history stretching back to 1951 and the miners of the Backworth Colliery..

The Choir is a male voice choir with traditional roots but now performs a wide range of different style numbers alongside some of the region's finest instrumental/choral ensembles and soloists. They do perform throughout the region and beyond, in pretty much any location from restaurants and small halls to theatres/large halls, cathedrals and even stadiums. This includes various locations in Europe and all parts of the UK including Wales, as well as playing host to choirs from all over the world on UK tours. A favourite being Germany to meet up with old friends from the Bererchor, Solingen choir and to take part in concerts. Both choirs were asked to sing at the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Finkenweder Choir, Hamburg. Have a venue we have a song we can sing in it. Contacts on the website

The Choir have been fortunate to have had a number of well established and distinguished conductors who have all brought their own unique styles and ideas. Today the choir are under the leadership of Andrew Clarence.

Today’s Choir is a seventy strong community choir, attracting members from all walks of life. We are proud to support the work of many regionally charities and organisations through our performances.

Swing Bridge Singers

The Swing Bridge Singers are a choral group of independent teenagers, conducted for over 35 years by the same balding hippy. Which means they have been around for as long as The Simpsons, and five years longer than the Premiership. Earlier Swing Bridge generations have backed Barry Manilow, Aled Jones, Ralph McTell, the Kingdom Choir and Jimmy Nail (twice), as well as themselves being backed by Royal Northern Sinfonia and a band with members from Dire Straits, Lindisfarne and AC/DC. Swing Bridge sing anything from Tudor madrigals to Geordie folk to African chants to 30s Swing to 60s Motown to Teenage Dirtbag, combining open access with high standards; they reached the finals of the National Festival of Music for Youth at each of their last eight bids. They have sung in seven countries and Legoland, and have performed on the pitch at a sold-out St. James’s Park once, on Radio 4 twice, in Sunday for Sammy three times, on CD four times, in Christmas at the Cathedral six times, and on BBC Radio Newcastle 13 times. They just keep on singing…
