Tagline: A Darkly Funny Journey through Innocence and Disillusionment

A new play documenting a particularly chaotic chapter in the life of titular 24-year-old volunteer Girl Guide leader, Angela.

Angela’s sense of self is thrown into disarray with the arrival into her troop of a conceited 11-year-old, Nina.

In the face of such irritating self-confidence, how will Angela forge those deeper connections for which she longs, and ultimately realise her ambitions of becoming a mentor to these girls?

It won’t be easy - with or without a pep-talking poultry Simon Cowell - and, regrettably, some wildlife will (accidentally) be harmed in the process.

As the full-length adaptation of a response to Sugar Baby by Alan Harris produced by Alphabetti Theatre, in late 2022, this was the north east premier of the production, ‘Angela’ throws up themes of disillusionment, competition, personal instability, and the oft-blurred line between innocence and corruption.

A thrilling juxtaposition between foolish oversight and sinister intrigue adds an unsettling atmosphere to a narrative which dances expertly between the darkly obscene and the outright comical, whilst remaining 100% relatable and human.

Join Angela on a voyage of self-reflection and discovery, via despair and disillusionment. With so many bumps in the road, writer Charlotte Small asks of us all what it truly takes to ‘Be Prepared’.
