In 1898, with Queen Victoria still on the throne and the North booming with newfound industry, a water closet was installed for the people of Newcastle in the Bigg Market. In 2020, a creative eye spotted the potential for the spectacular Victorian architecture that housed the now abandoned public loos and have transformed them into a must-visit wine bar to add to Newcastle's thriving nightlife.
Another unique dedicated Gin and Cocktail bar in Newcastle is WC's sister venue, WC Gin Closest - also said to be the UK's smallest gin bar.
