The corona-coaster continues in the North East! Life resembles some normality following the reopening of hundreds of restaurants, cafes and food stalls across Newcastle and Gateshead - however, we all know there is a need to remain vigilant and enjoy dining out responsibly.

Tightened local lockdown restrictions in NewcastleGateshead and the wider North East means that restaurants and pubs will only provide table service as well as closing at 10pm. Don't forget, in order for bars, pubs and restaurants to be fully closed at 10pm in line with government restrictions, they will need to implement their own last orders which will mean that you will have to finish up and be out before the 10pm. Thanks for helping the businesses stick to the new 10pm curfew by being patient and following their individual time frames.

There will be some further changes to the way you dine out in NewcastleGateshead too with restaurants adapting how they cater for visitors to ensure they keep you and their staff safe and prevent the spread of coronavirus. Expect to pre-book in advance and table numbers are limited to 6 people from your household or support bubble. Remember - it is now mandatory in the North East that you only dine out in NewcastleGateshead or visit indoor attractions, restaurants, pubs and leisure venues with people in your households and support bubbles, up to a maximum of 6 people.

Some restaurants and cafes will be making good use of their outdoor space and offer more space for al fresco dining. Listings will be updated on our website with the relevant safety measures for each restaurant, cafe and pub as well as details of how you can plan your meal out to ensure you have the best experience.

Whether it's Indian cuisine, fine-dining or street food you're craving - there are a number of excellent restaurants and cafes that are open including award-winning favourites, Blackfriars and Dobson & Parnell, both in Newcastle. Treat yourself to a lazy brunch at Ouseburn cafe Ernest or head to South Causey Inn for a magical dining experience in their exclusive Bubble Pods. If it's a big juicy burger your looking forward to, Fat Hippo (Underground and Jesmond branch) and new restaurant, Meat: Stack will hit the spot. A number of pubs and bars, like Wylam Brewery at Palace of Arts, Stack Newcastle and Banyan, have begun to reopen serving both food and drinks, cocktails and pints.
